West Norfolk residents are being urged to take advantage of a local initiative that has been designed to help keep their homes warm and their energy bills low throughout the winter months.

Local publication the Lynn News reports that people in the area are being reminded that they can use the npower Health Through Warmth scheme to access energy-efficient home improvements.

In particular, the programme is aimed at the more vulnerable members of the community. But because such individuals may not necessarily know where to find out about cost-effective energy-saving measures themselves, local people are being asked to keep an eye on their elderly neighbours to ensure they do not suffer during colder spells of weather.

More specifically, the initiative focuses on protecting the health and wellbeing of elderly and vulnerable individuals throughout the winter.

Health Through Warmth team members work alongside local authorities, charities and community organisations to help elderly people with the cost and installation of home-warming energy-saving measures, such as improved boilers and cavity or solid wall insulation.

It is not just elderly individuals that can benefit from the initiative, as those with little or no savings, low income or a long-term illness can also be eligible for assistance under the scheme. What’s more, it is not essential for beneficiaries to be npower customers.

Speaking to the newspaper, Health Through Warmth scheme manager Elaine Midwinter commented: “With winter upon us and temperatures set to plummet in the weeks ahead, it’s important that people look out for the vulnerable in their communities.

“We’re calling on residents in West Norfolk to keep an eye on friends, family and neighbours, whose health could be made worse because of a broken down heating system.”

Health Through Warmth was first established by npower in 2000 and since then, has helped more than 84,000 vulnerable people throughout England and Wales to improve their home insulation and heating systems.
